Back to Work!! (4/365)

Here we are.  It’s Sunday night. Tomorrow I head back to work following our Christmas break.  I normally do not handle time off well, but for some reason, this year, I really enjoyed it.  I spent so much time playing with the kids and just “getting away from it all”.

Don’t get me wrong.  I absolutely LOVE my job.  I still wake up at 4:30 in the morning most days — hoping that it is time to get up and go to work.  But this year, I was so fatigued in December that I REALLY needed the time off.

As the title of this post says, it is back to work for me.  The title really serves a dual purpose this time.  I have been putting off work on my dissertation now for about 18 months.  Haven’t…written…a…single…word.  But that is all about to change.

This weekend, I was speaking to my wife about my need for a dedicated work space.  Our house is small.  I do not have an office or den.  My efforts to work at the dining room table have (as you can imagine) been fruitless.  More than anything, I have been uncomfortable to even try.  Maybe it’s just another excuse – who knows?  But now it is time to put up or shut up.

My wife (R) suggested that we quit using our dining set (the chairs are all breaking down, anyway) and move my files, printer, etc. into the dining area to create my work space.  I was skeptical at first, but decided, “Why not?”

Yesterday we made the move.  Today I finished my initial set up.  I think I will be able to write – while not having to worry about moving my research and materials constantly.

In addition, today I did some clean-up work in my bedroom and to my bookshelves.  Cleared out some clutter.  I feel good.

And to top it off —– the Cowboys picked up a WIN.

Not a bad day.
